2008 ATHENS CAR CRASHES THAT KILLED SOMEONE

Far, far, too many people are killed in car wrecks in Athens, Georgia. To give you an idea how serious the problem is, according to a website that gathers data about fatal car crashes, in 2008 alone, 13 people died in car accidents in Athens, Georgia. (The most recent full set of data that is available is from 2008).

On February 6, 2008, a car hit a pedestrian at 2:23 a.m. on County Road 38. The pedestrian was killed.

At 4:47 a.m. on April 5, 2008, one person died in a car wreck on U.S. 78. The car had three passengers, but the statistics do not specify whether a driver or a passenger was killed in the wreck.

One person was killed in a single-auto accident that occurred on CR 1243 on April 2, 2008, at 4 a.m. According to the data provided, the driver was drunk.

At 6:10 a.m. on June 8, 2008, a pedestrian was killed when a drunk driver struck the pedestrian on Barnett Shoals Road. Again, the statistics state that the driver was drunk.

During the early morning of June 10, 2008, at 6:31 a.m., one person was killed in a very large accident that involved four different vehicles on Cherokee Road. None of the vehicles held a passenger.

On June 14, 2008, a pedestrian was killed on SR-15. The accident occurred at 6:10 a.m. According to the report, the driver of the vehicle was drunk.

June proved to be a very bad month for Athens. Another person was killed in a two-vehicle collision on June 18, 2006 at 6:42 a.m. That accident took place at the corner of Timothy Rd. and Colleton Rd.

On July 20, 2008, at 7:37 a.m., a drunk driver was involved in a one-car wreck. He had a passenger, and the data does not state whether the driver or the passenger was killed during the wreck. August 22, 2008 saw another person killed in a single-vehicle wreck on Old Lexington Road at 8:15 a.m.

On September 11, 2008, at 9:34 a.m. a drunken driver struck and killed a pedestrian at the intersection of Macon Highway and Lumpkin Street.

One person died on September 27, 2008, in a car single-vehicle car accident that occurred on Tall Tree Road at 9:51 in the morning.

November 16, 2008 saw an accident at the intersection of State Road 15 and Timothy Road. Two cars which held a total of 7 people counting both drivers and passengers collided, leaving one person dead. That accident occurred at 11:11 a.m.
