About Lee Wallace
Award-Winning Lawyer Helps You Settle Your Case at Mediation
By her third year of law school, Lee Wallace knew she wanted to be a mediator. But first, she needed the experience to understand how litigation works. Now, with 31 years of trial experience under her belt, Lee has returned to that law school dream; she helps lawyers and their clients settle cases without the time, stress, expense and uncertainty of trial.
Lee graduated first in her class at Vanderbilt University, and cum laude from Harvard Law School. While at Harvard, Lee had the privilege of studying mediation under the “Father of Mediation,” Frank E.A. Sander, and learning negotiation from the author of Getting to Yes, Roger Fisher. Convinced that alternative dispute resolution could, would and should disrupt the field of litigation, she did her third-year independent work on alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and organized a symposium on alternative dispute resolution.
After law school, Lee clerked on the 11th Circuit, and then began her legal career at a large law firm, handling defense-side cases. She later moved to a plaintiff’s firm, handling product liability and personal injury cases. She has handled cases in a wide variety of fields, including personal injury, product liability, qui tam whistleblower (False Claims Act), medical malpractice, premises liability, copyright, mass tort, class action, contracts, professional liability and auto and tractor-trailer wreck cases. Over her more than 30 years of practicing law, Lee has handled legal matters in 20 states.
Lee is a past President of the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers. She chaired the Product Liability Section of the Georgia State Bar. She has edited a book on medical negligence and published numerous articles on plaintiffs’ personal injury issues. She writes a mediation blog and regularly teaches seminars to lawyers who want to improve their mediation and negotiation skills.
In polling of 24,000 Georgia lawyers, Lee Wallace was named one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Georgia. She has been named a “Georgia SuperLawyer” every year since the poll began, and has repeatedly been named one of the top 50 female lawyers and one of the top 10 product liability lawyers in Georgia. Lee also has been asked to serve on the Blue Ribbon panel that evaluates lawyers for the SuperLawyer award. Georgia Trend magazine has named Lee Wallace one of Georgia’s “Legal Elite.” Lee is also AV®Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated¹ by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, the highest rating in legal ability and ethical standards given by an attorney’s peers.

Representative Cases
Lee Wallace handles whistleblower cases and personal injury cases resulting from car and truck wrecks, nursing home negligence, product liability, and bacterial contaminations. Many of her personal injury clients have traumatic brain injuries or spinal cord injuries. She also handles whistleblower cases under the False Claims Act, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), state qui tam provisions and the SEC, IRS and CFTC whistleblower provisions.
Lee Wallace has been admitted pro hac vice and has litigated cases in numerous states around the country.
Here is a representative sampling of cases in which Ms. Wallace has represented – by herself or with a team – the whistleblower, the person who was injured, or the family of a person who was killed. Unless otherwise indicated, the amount of the settlement in each of these cases was confidential and therefore cannot be disclosed.
Whistleblower/Qui Tam (False Claims Act)
$4,630,000
A defense contracting giant paid the U.S. Government $4,630,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by a Texas whistleblower. Represented by Lee Wallace, the whistleblower filed suit in Georgia under the False Claims Act, claiming that L-3 overbilled the Government for training the military gave L-3 employees in Georgia before they deployed overseas. The whistleblower, a sheet metal mechanic, received $798,675 for his role in getting the defense contractor to reimburse the U.S., and the company paid an additional $186,400.56 in attorneys’ fees.
Whistleblower/Qui Tam (False Claims Act)
$3,200,000
An accountant worked overseas for a defense contractor that billed the U.S. Government hourly for the work of each of its employees. We filed suit for him under the False Claims Act so that he could tell the Government that the company was charging the Government for employees’ time even though they were away from base on 3-day passes.
Whistleblower/Qui Tam (False Claims Act)
$4,000,000
An aircraft mechanic blew the whistle on a contractor that was overbilling the Government in a contract in Iraq. The Government got $4,000,000 back – and he got a percentage because he helped.
Whistleblower Retaliation (False Claims Act)
Confidential amount
When a defense subcontractor used an out-of-date ingredient when it mixed a rubber compound to be used in the sonar nose cone for a U.S. Naval frigate, one brave employee threatened to report the issue to the government. The company fired him, and we filed suit on his behalf. He won a settlement for retaliation against him, ultimately settling the case for a confidential sum. (Georgia)

Product Liability – Asbestos
Various amounts from different asbestos manufacturers
A young naval officer was exposed to asbestos while in the military during World War II. Years later, he contracted asbetosis. After his death, his estate sued and recovered from several of the manufacturers of asbestos. (Massachusetts)
Auto Accident
$75,000
A woman was driving home from her job at Walmart when a car in the oncoming lane swerved to avoid a deer, hydroplaned, lost control and crashed into her car. She fractured her neck, but it fortunately healed without surgery. We filed suit and recovered $75,000 for her. (Georgia)
Premises Liability – Shooting/gunshot
$1,000,000
After eating at a chain restaurant, a man walked out to his car to retrieve his credit card. While he was in the parking lot, a robber approached and demanded his wallet. As the man reached for his wallet, the robber shot him. The restaurant had other incidents of crime in the parking lots of its chain restaurants, and we were able to settle our client’s case for $1,000,000.
Product Liability
Confidential amount
Our client had a Medtronic pacemaker implanted in him, and the pacemaker shocked him repeatedly even though he was not having any heart problems. The company later recalled the pacemakers for faulty lead wires. We filed his claim as part of the mass tort action.
Car Accident Case
$300,000
A young woman was seriously injured in a car collision that was not her fault. The case settled for $300,000, which was the full policy limits from three different insurance companies.
Legionnaire’s Disease
Confidential settlement
Six members of a family contracted Legionnaire’s Disease while sitting near the whirlpool at a hotel. Legionella bacteria were breeding in the filter of the whirlpool, and became airborne. The whirlpool logs showed that the whirlpool had been poorly maintained in the months leading up to the incident, and continued to be poorly maintained in the months following the incident. Lee Wallace sent Freedom of Information Act requests to every county in which the hotel chain had a hotel. She obtained damning records showing that other hotels in the chain had had their pools shut down due to maintenance and bacterial problems.
GM Pickup Fuel-Fed Fire – Wrongful Death
$104,000,000 jury verdict, with subsequent confidential settlement prior to retrial
A high school student was driving home in a GM pickup truck which had its fuel tank outside the frame rails of the vehicle. A drunk driver struck the student’s truck in the side. The fuel tank of the pickup truck was punctured and the high school student was burned to death. Member of litigation team.
Product Liability — Serious Personal Injury
$750,000 settlement
A young man was seriously injured when his leg was caught in the unguarded roller on a carpet-manufacturing machine. A protective cage was already in place, but it had been placed behind the rollers instead of in front of them.
Auto Collision
$100,000 settlement
A hard-working Romanian immigrant suffered broken bones when a car crossed the center line and struck his vehicle head-on. The case settled for the full amount of the insurance policy without suit being filed.
Suzuki Samurai Rollover – Quadriplegia
Original $32,000,000 verdict, confidential settlement on retrial
A young woman was a passenger in a Suzuki Samurai, which rolled over, rendering her a quadriplegic. Member of litigation team.
Car Accident Collision
$100,000 settlement
A middle school gym teacher was hurt when her car was struck by a careless driver. She broke her pelvis in five places and broke six ribs. Her injuries made it very difficult for her to be as active with her gym students as she had been. The case settled for the full amount of the insurance policy without suit being filed.

A woman was proceeding straight down the road. A driver in a nearby turn lane suddenly turned directly in front of the woman, injuring her and totaling her car. The case settled for the full amount of the insurance policy without suit being filed.
Birth-Related Infant Brain Injuries
Confidential settlement
An infant was born with catastrophic brain injuries because she had been deprived of oxygen immediately before birth. The family had requested a C-section, but the doctor delayed it. The injuries could have been prevented if the hospital and doctor had performed a C-section in time.
Premises Liability – Rape
Confidential settlement
A boy attending a boarding school was raped by an older classmate. Members of the school administration had encouraged sexual misconduct and created an atmosphere that fostered several acts of abuse, including this one.
Officer and Director Fraud
Confidential Settlement
The CEO of a company discovered the company’s President had taken money from the company. When he came forward with the information, the President and the company sued him. I represented the CEO and filed a counter-claim. The case settled by the company dropping the case against him and also paying him money.
Suzuki Samurai Rollover – Brain Injury
Confidential settlement
A young man was driving a Suzuki Samurai that rolled over after it was struck by another vehicle. He suffered severe brain injuries. Since GM and Suzuki had joint ventured on another SUV, the Sidekick, Lee Wallace filed motions in the Detroit, Michigan, court, forcing GM to disclose documents that revealed critical facts about the Samurai.
Seatbelt Failure Causes Ejection – Brain Injury
$40,000,000 jury verdict, with subsequent confidential settlement
A van was struck on the passenger side by another vehicle. The driver of the van was wearing her seat belt, but it came off in the collision. The driver flew out the passenger side window of the van, and landed headfirst on the pavement, suffering catastrophic head injuries. Member of litigation team.

County Government Raids Business, Falsely Accuses Owners
$8,000,000 settlement
A county government raided a small business, confiscating its computers and all of its files. The county government accused the small business owners of drug smuggling. The charges were completely false, but the business owners lost their reputations and their business. Member of litigation team.
GM Pickup Fuel-Fed Fire – Severe Burns
Confidential settlement
Two brothers, one a father of two, were riding in a GM pickup truck with the fuel tank outside the frame rails. The tank on their truck ruptured when their truck was struck by another vehicle. One of the men got out of the truck, but he went back in when he realized his brother was trapped. Both young men lived, but were badly burned. Member of litigation team.
Toyota 4Runner Rollover – Brain injury
Confidential settlement
A legal secretary was driving a Toyota 4Runner. When she got two wheels off the road, and corrected to get back on the road, the 4Runner rolled over. The secretary suffered catastrophic brain injuries. She could no longer walk, feed herself, or talk or communicate in any way. Member of litigation team.
Dodge Van Fuel-Fed Fire – Severe Burns
Confidential settlement
A woman was driving a Dodge van to make deliveries. She stopped when a highway construction worker signaled traffic to stop, but the driver behind her missed the signal and collided with the back of her van. The fuel tank on her car ruptured, and a fire erupted. The woman managed to escape the burning van, but not before she was badly burned over 67% of her body. Member of litigation team.
Suzuki Samurai Rollover – Paraplegia

A college student was a passenger in the back seat of a Suzuki Samurai. The Samurai fishtailed on ice, and rolled over. The college student was thrown from the vehicle and became a paraplegic. Member of litigation team.

Education
Lee Wallace graduated summa cum laude and first in her class from Vanderbilt University. A Harold Stirling Vanderbilt Scholar, Ms. Wallace majored in English, with minors in economics and mathematics. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in her junior year. Ms. Wallace was a senator in the Student Government Association and Speaker of the Student Senate. She was a member of the debate team, winner of the Houston Oratory Contest, and First Place individual speaker at the SIU Regional Debate Tournament. Ms. Wallace was awarded the Founder’s Medal in Oratory.
Lee Wallace graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1987. She was a research assistant for Professor Laurence Tribe, and an editor of the Harvard Law School Journal of Law and Public Policy in 1984-1985. She was founder and chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Symposium. She was elected class representative for the class of 1987.

Speaking Engagements
Lee Wallace speaks and publishes frequently on legal topics. She has been invited to guest lecture at Emory Law School and Georgia State Law School, and to speak at the Bobby Lee Cook Symposium at John Marshall Law School. Ms. Wallace has presented continuing legal education seminars to lawyers in several states and Canada. She has spoken at the annual conventions of the American Bar Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association, and for the ICLE at Sea program. Her speeches have covered topics ranging from product liability to spoliation of evidence.

Work History
After graduating from Harvard Law School, Lee Wallace clerked for Judge James C. Hill of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Ms. Wallace worked for a large downtown Atlanta firm for her first several years of practice.
In 1992, Lee Wallace began to practice plaintiffs’ personal injury law at the firm that is now Butler, Wooten, & Fryhofer. Ms. Wallace practiced at that firm for nine years, the last five as a partner. After stints at two other litigation boutiques, Ms. Wallace now has her own law firm in Atlanta, Georgia.
Professional and Community Involvement
Lee Wallace is the Past President of the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers, and the recipient of the group’s Visionary Award.
Ms. Wallace has served as a member of the State Bar of Georgia’s Bench and Bar Committee since 2007. She is a Master in the Bleckley Inn of Court for Georgia State Law School.
Ms. Wallace was a member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Civil Justice Foundation from 1999 – 2007. From 1998 – 2009, she served on the State Bar of Georgia’s Disciplinary Rules Committee, which drafted the first-ever disciplinary rules for lawyers in the State of Georgia.
Lee Wallace has sat on the boards of both the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers and the Sole Practitioner/Small Firm section of the Atlanta Bar, and has chaired committees for both groups. She served as secretary of GAWL, and co-chaired its Brown Bag Luncheon program.
Lee Wallace served on the Atlanta Bar Association’s Judicial Selection and Service Committee, and chaired that bar’s State Courts Committee. Ms. Wallace served as a member of the Emerging Issues Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tort and Insurance Practice Section.
Ms. Wallace co-chaired the Consumer Affairs Committee of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, and edited GTLA’s Verdict magazine for two years.
She also served as GTLA parliamentarian. In cooperation with the Chamblee Georgia Police Department, the University of Georgia Extension Service, and the DeKalb Safe Kids Coalition, Ms. Wallace organized a GTLA drive to provide free bicycle helmets to children who did not have them.
Lee Wallace is a member of Taxpayers Against Fraud, a group dedicated to prosecuting and stopping false claims against the Government.
Ms. Wallace has served as a member of the Emerging Issues Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tort and Insurance Practice Section. Lee Wallace has spoken at the annual meeting of the American Bar Association. She also served on the Emerging Issues Committee of the ABA’s Tort and Insurance Practice Section. Lee Wallace is a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, now the American Association for Justice, and has spoken at several of its annual meetings.
Lee Wallace is a member of the Lawyers Club of Atlanta.
Lee Wallace and her husband George have been married since 1994 and have two children.
After a spinal cord injury in 1983, George did rehabilitation at Shepherd Center. In 1998, Shepherd Center opened a short-term living facility across from their church, ChristChurch Presbyterian Church in America, and the Wallaces saw an opportunity to express their gratitude. They founded a ministry through their church to host “Sundaes on Sunday”, an ice cream social for residents and their families.
From 2015-2017, Ms. Wallace served on the board of the Foundation for Riverwood International Charter School.
